81 on 81 Run

This weekend Jason and I did an incredibly fun run back in N. Dakota with his family called 81 on 81. It is a relay style run that starts in Fargo on Old HWY 81 and each member of the 12 or 6 person team runs between 6-8 miles to various towns for a total of 81 miles. One very cool aspect is that the race starts at 9: 30 p.m. so half the race is in the pitch black of night. The other nice part is that it is held in North Dakota so the course is extremely flat and fast. It was surprisingly cool after a storm rolled in that evening which was perfect for running but made spectating a bit cold. The entire family did just AWESOME and Jason and I were very pleased with our runs. Jason ran under a 7 minute pace for over 8 miles and I had a nice 6 mile stretch with an 8 minute pace. The run goes right past Jason's folks house so Donna had a delicious breakfast and coffee waiting for all the runners as we went through Grandin. After each person finishes their respective leg of the race it is tradition for our team to take a shot of cinnamon schnapps called Hot Dam and water. It was so much fun to stay up all night cheering everyone on and getting to visit with family. After the race we got to rest/relax and have a wonderful weekend with Jason's folks. The boys had lots of fun with bubbles, 4 wheeler rides, and bean bag toss. It was a great weekend and we are looking forward to doing it all again next year. HOT DAM!
